Annual Symposium 2014 – Carving: 'This Ingenious Art'

15 March 2014,
The Wallace Collection, London

This year the Furniture History Society is dedicating its annual symposium entirely to woodcarving. I am giving a presentation there entitled 'Willem van Sundert and Others. The Rediscovery of Seventeenth-century Dutch Woodcarving'. See the flyer for details.

Research trip to England

In April 2015 I am going to England for my research trip which is generously sponsored by the Stichting Daniël Marot Fonds and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.

I will be doing research on Dutch woodcarvers active in Britain (1650-1700), Grinling Gibbons in York and his master John Etty. I am thrilled to be able to visit the Admiralty Boardroom in Whitehall and study its decoration.

York and North Yorkshire

24-26 April 2015
Newby Hall Gardens

I am taking part in a study trip to York and North Yorkshire organised by the Furniture History Society. It will include private visits to Sutton Park, Newby Hall, Norton Conyers, Fairfax House and York Mansion House.
